[ Final ] Final Submission -

After thinking about the function of the building is art gallery,
I stretched the building structure into a cube shape.
The roof has been change into whole glass to get more skylight.

In my model, there are two mainly parts,
one is the studio for the artist and the other part is the display room.
The studio part built with boxes in different sizes as the rooms: for work, for rest...
 
 
The display space mainly and only have a wide spiral stair case.
I would put the painting or some other art work on the steps randomly...

For the most freaking out thing is the main parts of my building just can't import into CryDev, but only the glass wall, like what I showing in the picture above.

[ Week 8 ]Precedent Study -

1)  A brief outline of Project 1 
– What was your chosen architecture? What were the concepts unpacked in your concept model? 
My chosen architecture is Zaha Hadid. For my project 1 I have I made a digital concept model based on the contemporary centre of art in Rome and the spiral tower's concepts which are fluent and energetic.
The contemporary centre of art is acts as a tie between the geometrical elements already present. The repetition of the wall demonstrate the power built by concrete which make me feel energetic. So in my concept model I used the repeating water drop shape as my level.
The spiral tower which is built in repetition way as well. But the smooth and fluent details are more significant. And the rotation of the levels is also inspired me a lot. I choose the teardrop shape to followed the smooth and fluent concept and rotate my level slightly as well.



2)  A visual analysis of 2x precedent studies as a pair 
– One from your Project 1 architect, another from an architect of your own choosing. How are they conceptually similar to Project 1? 

project 1 architect: Zaha Hadid - Galaxy Soho
[ The Galaxy Soho project by Zaha Hadid in central Beijing for Soho China is a 330,000 m² office,
retail and entertainment complex that will become an integral part of the living city,
inspired by the grand scale Beijing. ]

The repetition style of the structure is the significant concept in this building, this is quite similar with my concept model. In Project 3, I might make the interior circulation like the Galaxy Soho as well. The smooth shape columns inspired me to get more opening space in my model.

new choosing: 3XN - Kristiansand Concert Hall(concept)
[ The point of inspiration in Kristiansand Concert Hall is the rocks of Odderøya.
The concert hall unfolds like feathery filigree and suggests the transition from
the flat waterfront to the mountain tops. ]

The fluent liner structure, the repetition of the smooth shape around the building and the perfect set with the landform...Although the final building is totally different with the concept Kristiansand Concert Hall, the rendering image with the landform inspired me a lot. 

These building that I chose are conceptually similar to my Project 1 concept, in terms of the repetition of the structures, the smooth shapes and the liner circulation. 

3)  A Design Proposal and Design Draft for Assignment 3
– List three specific building types and functions for your new design. How can they challenge the concepts and ideas you have looked at in Project 1? Select one and begin a first design draft. 
  • Shopping Mall
  • Art Gallery
  • Concert Hall
Based on these three options, i decided to create a Art Gallery. This choice would allow my concepts of simple smooth shapes, opening space and fluent circulation.

4)  A Short Description on your Prescribed Additional Representation
– What is the relevance of the technology you have selected to the nature of your design? What kinds of techniques and processes would you use from this technology in order to engage with the design of your architectural solution?

I have chosen 3Ds Max to the nature of my design. It provides me the realistic material to render. And might use Photoshop to fixing the rendering images.
For the techniques and processes I would use CryEngine to make a custom landform for the model and the final submission would present as a short Fraps video.

I try to make my marker looks like another building model which following the concept as well as the Teardrops. In my marker concept, the four pieces of marker are demonstrate the repitition, the bottom foundation hole the pieces standing in different way and also get special shadow on the white paperboard.

For the Assignment 2 final submission, I'm still using the Assignment 1 model's concept which is fluent and energetic. The whole model build by four main parts: two floors; four layers of lighting frame; glass window and roof. The sem-circle frame is the front of the building. The other side is hard sharp frame to deomstrated the energetic concept which followed the contemporary centre of Art. The design of the wall in the building is all build by glass, because shadow is also an important part to show the power of the building.

My building named TEARDROPS.
